Carole Benzaken: Diana's Funeral

11 September - 13 October 1999

Carole Benzaken has been living and working in Los Angeles for two years. The space, the light, the complex links between nature and "Pop culture" drew Carole Benzaken to California. She worked from photographs she took herself on television, on the different channels, on the day of Lady Diana's funeral, in September 1997.
We encounter the  same obsession with the subject as in "Tulips" with a more "Pop" approach and a different treatment. Paintings, photographs and pastels will be shown together.

A first series of this new work was the subject of a beautiful exhibition at the CAPC in Bordeaux this spring.
A set is presented in the exhibition "Primitive Passion", at the Palais des Papes in Avignon, until November 1, 1999.

From September 11, Carole Benzaken will show at the gallery, the continuation of this work where, as in the "Tulips", we follow the evolution of the treatment of the subject. The first works, made more than a year ago, are already quite different from the most recent ones.
