Carole Benzaken: Day & Night

6 April - 18 May 2002

Carole Benzaken was born in 1964 in Grenoble. She has been living and working in Los Angeles for the past four years where she filmed and photographed her neighborhood: the Black-Latino ghetto.

From this stay, she has just completed a series of paintings.
These works give us the feeling of an energetic and sprawling city where everything is mixed up. The titles of the works are evocative of the city's hold on the artist's imagination: "Hyde Park", "La Brea Night", "Louis & Luis"...
Carole Benzaken will show her latest paintings and video at the gallery from April 6 to May 18, 2002.

She will also be present in the exhibition "Dear painter, paint me" organized by Alison Gingeras from June 10 at the Centre Georges Pompidou. This exhibition will then be presented at the Schrin Kunsthalle, Frankfurt and the Kunsthalle, Wien.
