A 1,200 m² journey to discover a unique figure in the history of cinema, art, photography, and political and cultural activism, spanning the 20th and 21st centuries.
The first female director to receive an Honorary Oscar (presented by Angelina Jolie in 2017) and the first female director to win awards at Cannes, Venice, Locarno, Berlin, and San Sebastian, Agnès Varda is the focus of the exhibition Viva Varda! Il cinema è donna (curated by Florence Tissot, with artistic direction by Rosalie Varda), at the Galleria Modernissimo in Bologna from March 5, 2026, to January 10, 2027, produced by the Cineteca di Bologna and La Cinémathèque française, in collaboration with Ciné-Tamaris.
The exhibition Viva Varda! Il cinema è donna was created in close collaboration with the exhibition Agnès Varda. De-ci de-là, Paris-Rome, held at the Villa Medici in Rome from February 25 to May 25.
