Moreira Salles Institute in São Paulo presents Agnès Varda's photographs in dialogue with her cinematographic work
With more than two hundred images-including many previously unseen ones-Photography AGNÈS VARDA Cinema opens on November 29. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the links between cinema and photography in the director's work. Among the documents on display are photographs from her travels in China, Cuba, and the United States. A selection of her films, screened at the IMS Cinema, extends and broadens the curatorial proposal.
A major figure in the history of cinema-her work has undoubtedly left its mark on generations-Agnes Varda (1928-2019) is also the author of a vast photographic production. While it is true that over the years she has established herself primarily on the big screen, photography, which marked her early career, has continued to permeate her work, both in her films and in her more recent artistic installations. This aspect, perhaps less known to the public, is at the heart of the exhibition Photography AGNÈS VARDA Cinema, presented at the IMS Paulista (Av. Paulista, 2424). Admission is free.
