Level -1, Small Room
Mickalene Thomas is an artist based in New York City. Her multidisciplinary practice—painting, photography, collage, video, and installation—explores the complexities of Black female identity, beauty, and empowerment within the context of the historical canon of Western art and the African diaspora.
Thomas is also a co-producer, curator, teacher, and mentor to emerging artists. She extends her creative influence through collaborations in fashion, beauty, and culture. While presenting her own exhibitions, Thomas curates for major institutions, helping to shape the future of contemporary art both inside and outside the studio.
