Photographer and filmmaker Laura Henno has built a resolutely political body of work, with each project revealing parallel realities. Outremonde depicts the inhabitants of a camp lost in time in the desert of southeastern California. Slab City, a veritable no man's land, is populated by marginalized individuals abandoned by a society from which they have detached themselves. The artist paints a picture of a makeshift America that she captures in low-angled light. By illuminating the uncertain destinies of forgotten populations, Laura Henno explores the geopolitics of the margins, in dialogue with the great tradition of American documentary photography.
