Laure Prouvost: Biennale de Nice

For the first time, the Biennale des Arts de Nice is enriched by a proposal of works in the public space - created by major artists on the national and international scene.

All have been chosen for their long-standing exploration of the plurality of uses and imaginaries of the sea, and some for their collaboration with the scientific world and their commitment to bearing witness to current ecological upheavals.

The "The sea around us" public space route will extend the biennial's traditional audience by reaching out to residents and tourists alike, thanks to its presence at key, emblematic sites in the city of Nice. It will extend the imaginations and pleas of contemporary artists on the ocean deployed in the biennial's sites.

Here, Laure Prouvost's sculpture - entitled Landed Here to Sea You, With All Our Very Breasts, 2023 - seems to emerge from the lawn. This bronze octopus invites us to pay attention to the voice of a universe and of beings that are invisible: that of the United Nations of the underwater worlds. With fantasy and poetry, the artist and his totem animal invite us to consider a potential world of inter-species relationships and alliances.
