Born in 1996 in Saint-Brieuc (France), Quentin Gouevic grew up and initially worked in a working-class environment. After some initial professional experience in this field, he resumed his studies at the Beaux-Arts de Nantes Saint-Nazaire in 2019, where he began to develop his painting. After moving to Paris, he benefited from two exhibitions at the Galerie Nathalie Obadia, in 2024 and 2025.
" What excites me about painting is the idea that trying to understand it, to dissect it in the wider sense, is a way of getting closer to life itself, and at the same time, of diving into something so vertiginous. This feeling of being able to touch something intangible, simply through colored media, fascinates me and fuels my desire to paint every day.
I think my research is linked to memory, and that there is something in my painting that materializes in echo to this notion of memory-whether through the long-term development of a stratigraphy, or when I erase and cover up my paintings until they are finished. I feel like I use my practice as a tool for understanding the world, existence in general, and myself, despite the shadows that remain. It is always fascinating to interrogate forms, color, traces, and gestures-to find meaning and mystery in them.
At the same time, I am passionate about music, especially Metal. It has been part of my life and my daily routine for several years now."
Quentin Gouevic has been represented by Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Paris/Brussels since 2024.
