Born in 1959 in Seattle (USA), Jessica Stockholder lives and works in Chicago (USA).

Holder of a Master of Fine Art in sculpture and painting from the prestigious Yale University in 1984 and 1985 respectively, Jessica Stockholder is one of the most important sculptors of her generation. She won the First American Prize in Rome from the American Academy of Rome in 1985, and the Lucelia Artist Award from the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2007. Transmission and teaching are also at the heart of her concerns: in 2011, she was appointed Director of the Visual Arts Department at the University of Chicago.

The American and Canadian artist has had important solo exhibitions, notably at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht (Netherlands, 2019), at the Jones Center - The Contemporary Austin (United States, 2018), at SF MOMA in San Francisco (United States, 2014), Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield (United States, 2011), Palacio de Cristal in Madrid (Spain, 2010), PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York (United States, 2006), Dia Art Foundation in New York (United States, 1995), the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago (United States, 1991). In France, she has recently been shown at the Musée National d'Art Moderne - Centre Pompidou during the group exhibition Elles font l'abstraction curated by Christine Macel (2021), at the Musée régional d'art contemporain Occitanie in Sérignan (2018), at the CAPC in Bordeaux (2016). In 2012, two solo exhibitions were held at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne with Wide Eyes Smeared Here Dear and in Nantes for the FRAC des Pays de la Loire with Hollow Places Court in Ash-tree Wood.

 Outdoor installations for the Madison Square Park Conservancy's public commissions in New York with Flooded Chambers Maid (2009), and Color Jam for the Loop Alliance in Chicago (2012) have been great public and critical successes.

She has a significant presence in prestigious collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago), the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington D. C), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles), the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Addison Gallery of American Art (Andover), the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo), the British Museum (London), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Museum Ludwig (Vienna), Saatchi & Saatchi Collection (London), Centraal Museum (Utrecht), Musée Picasso d'Antibes, FRAC Limousin (Limoges), Carré d'Art (Nîmes), Le Consortium (Dijon).
